After the events of recent years, it’s good to see our communities are coming back together. The Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund has been celebrating this recently, by attending open days and events put on by the projects we have supported.

Trustees of the WHCF were joined by local councillor Terry Mitchinson and the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Councillor Barbara Fitzsimon at an open day at Digswell Place Riding for the Disabled (RDA). Together they presented a plaque of support to members of the management committee and Trustees of the RDA. The plaque highlights the funding awarded to this long standing local group based in Welwyn who provide horse-riding opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. With the funding they were able to build an all weather track for safe access through the RDA’s grounds, and increase their offering of sessions for groups and individuals. Those who are unable to ride can now benefit from Horse Therapy and being outside, such as those with Dementia.

The open day celebrated the important work the RDA does, with displays from riders and volunteers. It was an enjoyable day for all. The event featured in a report by the Welwyn Hatfield Times, which you can read here:

North Mymms Cricket Club invited the WHCF to their open evening, to see the success they have had with their youth program. With the help of a funding contribution from the WHCF the club are creating a girl’s cricket program and team. This will increase the offering in the area for girls to participate in cricket and be more physically active.  The open evening included cricket activities for the young players and awards, presented by The Mayor, Councillor Barbara Fitzsimon. The WHCF were very impressed with the amount of children attending and the positive atmosphere at the club.  It is clear the club are determined with their vision of getting more young players into the sport and we are very pleased to be a part of that.

The WHCF has had the pleasure of being able to see, and be involved with such positive things people within our community are doing. From encouraging physical activity and health of residents, to ensuring our local area offers different opportunities for people to nurture their wellbeing and mental health. We are now able once more to present successful applicants with funding awards in person, and meet the people behind these projects, that bring them to life. The Trustees presented awards to representatives from; North Mymms Cricket Club, Chimera Explorer Scout Unit and Friends of Danesbury Fernery. We welcome this return to meeting these champions for the community.

The WHCF continually welcomes applications from individuals, groups, teams and organisations who aim to increase the opportunities for physical activity and improve the physical and mental health of those in our community.
