On Sunday 3rd September Panshanger Golf Complex won the Clapham common platinum shield for the first time in 20 years. The competition is run by the NAPGC with the finals taking place at Staverton Park Golf Club in Birmingham. It is a greensomes competition with knock out rounds taking place against other clubs to reach the finals. Greensomes can be a tricky format with both players teeing off then picking the best drive and playing alternate shot until you complete the hole. A joint handicap is worked out with the Stableford scoring system used to determine the winner.

Panshanger were close to not making the finals with their semi-final match against Stevenage Golf Club going down to the final pairing. Stevenage held an 11 point lead with 1 match still to come in, everyone in the Panshanger team pretty much conceding defeat. In the final group though the Panshanger team beat their opponents by 12 points to win the match overall by a single point. The finals wold turn out to be just as close.

4 teams made up the final at Staverton Park GC, Panshanger GC, Haste Hill GC, Farnham Park GC and Royal Epping GC. After the first 5 pairings had come in there was just 1 point separating Panshanger, Royal Epping and Haste Hill with the final pairings from all teams to come in. Haste Hill came in with 27 points, Royal Epping with 32 and Panshanger 35 to win by 3 points. Our winning team was made up of Tony and Brian with an impressive 40 points, Chris and Jack with 34 points, Matt and Scott with 36 points, Nick and Jay with 30 points, Calvin and Mick with 36 points and Phil and Richard with 35 points totalling 221.

A massive congratulations to Panshanger Golf Club and all the players that took part in the qualifying rounds.
