Bird Feeder Design Project

Stanborough Park are proud to have recently supported a local student and designer with a field test of a bird food feeder. This was designed to promote the safe and correct method of feeding wildfowl.

Ross Holmes is a student at Hockerill Anglo-European College in Bishop's Stortford, and the design project of the bird feeder forms part of his International Baccalaureate Design Technology course.

Ross set the project in an attempt to educate people not to feed ducks bread. The idea was also to enable the design to be interactive and fun for children to use. The final design has rotating rings which make up the body of the duck, which allows feed introduced into the beak to fall through the clear channels and into the foot at the bottom. The foot is designed as a feeding tray for the ducks.

The final product would have instructions and do's & don'ts for bird feeding , printed on the reverse.

Ross chose Stanborough Park as his location to trial the feeder. The visit was a great success with plenty of interest from park users.
