Over the winter Stanborough were delighted to support the Herts Disability Sports Foundation with their ongoing programme. In December we were pleased to see a group from the Foundation enjoy a few hours of Christmas themed orienteering around our North Lake, followed by a small Christmas party in the woods.

Throughout the winter, when the weather has allowed, Herts Disability Sports Foundation has continued to use Stanborough Park as one of it’s main locations for Easy Rider cycling sessions around our South Lake; the children and adults taking part thoroughly enjoy both the cycling and the freedom to get out and about enjoying the views of the lake and the park at Stanborough.

The Foundation has provided invaluable support to their many customers throughout the lockdowns of the last two years; when the groups were not able to meet they put their thinking caps on and came up with all inclusive online activities such as bingo and disco sessions to keep up morale.

Herts Disability Sports Foundation was originally set up in Welwyn Hatfield to promote the development of disability sport for people in day services across Hertfordshire. The developments in provision made during the time of the Sports England funded programme have created a lasting legacy of equipment and training that continues to reap benefits for the whole community.

The Foundation also supports inclusive training and coach development opportunities for participants, coaches and day service staff; providing a holistic approach to inclusive sports development.

In addition to this, they provide open sessions which are available to anybody with a disability and their siblings/friends. These sessions include easy rider adapted cycling, fishing, bell boating, orienteering, archery, doughnutting. To find out more about these sessions and to book a place, please head to their website, https://hdsf.co.uk/.

The team at Stanborough are looking forward to the spring and summer when we will continue to support the Foundation with their activities, which will then include Bell boating on our South Lake and Rowing boats on our North Lake.
