Welwyn Garden City Angling Club were recently successful in being awarded grant funding from the Environment Agency for fishing swim improvements, with extra funds for the project also being provided by the Angling Club.

Members and Volunteers gave up their own personal time to complete extensive upgrade works to the fishing swims around the South lake. The new swims not only provide safer more comfortable platforms to fish from, but they also greatly improve the look of the lake edge.

In addition to the work on the Fishing swims, the club has continued to support the site with the installation of a new lake aerator to aid the oxygenation of the lake to improve water quality and the health of the fish stock. The Club generously donated £3600 towards the new unit; Better Stanborough Park would like to thank the Club for its very kind donation.

Club members & Volunteers also regularly give up their time to complete work party days at site which include the collection of litter, river clearances and tree maintenance. The works parties help to maintain the site standards and are of great help to the Stanborough Team.

Better would once again like to thank the Welwyn Garden City Angling Club for their continued partnership working and site improvements at Stanborough Park.

The Angling Club was established in 1946, and Stanborough has been its home site since this date. They continue to work in partnership with Better at Stanborough Park with further investment in the lake and the fish stock being coordinated by the Club with a rolling re stocking program including the re stocking of carp, bream and tench.

The Club also continues to work closely with the Environment Agency to monitor the stock levels and health of the stock as well as the water quality. Stanborough Park would like to thank the Environment Agency for their continued help and support for the site.

As well as Day Ticket Angling, Night Fishing also continues to be popular at Stanborough enabling anglers to fish for longer periods of time. Fishing matches and competitions at site are also very popular with good numbers of attendees and prizes to be won.

The Club promotes the benefits of angling which include improving overall fitness, improves concentration, reduces stress and is a great way to spend time with friends and meet new people. New club members are always welcome.

Membership details can be found on the Club website, and regular club news and updates are posted on the web page with full details of all of the club waters and facilities. https://www.wgc-angling-club.co.uk
