After restrictions were lifted on outdoor grass roots sports in March Frenchfield Sports Centre opened up the grass pitches for hire again to the community.

Since the end of March over 6000 customers have graced the pitches at Frenchfield Sports Centre, Castletown Recreational Ground and Appleby King George V playing field which has been a welcome boost to local sports clubs. Clubs have taken up the offer for training and matches alike with all training slots fully booked through the week.

Among those who have been able to get their leagues back up and running are the Penrith and District Junior Football League, The Westmorland League and also Carlisle United Academy who all use Frenchfield as their home base.

In addition to grassroots football taking place community groups such as Action Antz and Eden Runners have also returned.

General Manager Jon Lewthwaite said “It is fantastic to see all the football teams and community groups returning to use the pitches across Eden and continuing to be active. The feedback we have had from users and league representatives has been great. I’d also like to acknowledge the Groundsman’s efforts. Through their work during this pandemic, they have maintained our football pitches in very good condition”

Due to feedback and demand there will be a small provision of grass pitch areas kept on through the summer, for more information please email Frenchfield.Sports@GLL.ORG
