We were contacted on Thursday 3rd May 2019 by BBC Cumbria on behalf of Katy Taylor-Hamilton looking to borrow a javelin as she is competing in the Transplant Games again this year. Katy, the 21-year-old who resides from St Bees has competed in the European Heart and Lung Transplant Championship where she achieved silver medals in the 100m and 4km cross country events. Katy is now gearing up for the British Transplant Games which take place in Birmingham in August.
On Tuesday 7th May 2019, Katy went on air to talk about the Transplant Game and to make her appeal for a Javelin. Guy Thompson, the Cumbria Community Sports and Development manager for GLL went to on air at BBC Cumbria to present Katy with a javelin. Guy Thomson said: “GLL are delighted to be supporting Katy on her journey to participating in the Transplant Games in Birmingham in August 2019. As a Charitable Social Enterprise, we are always happy to support people from our local community. We hope though access to our facilities, support though coaching and the provision of a Javelin, that Katy will have everything she needs to be successful in the Games”.
Katy is going to visit the Sheepmount Athletics Stadium this weekend to get measured up for a Javelin which we will loan her while she is doing her training. We are also looking at providing her with access to facilities for training and access to a javelin coach.
We would like to wish Katy the best for her upcoming event and for future events.
