Two new netball sessions are launching at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre this September.

From the week commencing 11th September Back2Netball and Walking Netball sessions will be on offer for both members and non-members.

What is Back to Netball?

Back to Netball is welcoming, fun and understanding. Sessions will run on Tuesdays, 11:45-12:45 and 17:00-18:00.

It is a series of sessions that introduces people back to the sport of netball. It’s primarily for women who haven’t played for a long time or have never played at all and are complete beginners!

At Back to Netball sessions, we understand you’re juggling work, kids and everything in between and know it’s hard to take the first shot at the goal. But with the support of your Back to Netball Coach (Emma Isaac) and fellow netball returnees/newbies, we’re here to help you get back out on court and playing the sport we all love.

What is Walking Netball?

Walking Netball is a friendly and inclusive programme, allowing women the opportunity to find their place in the sport. It’s netball, but at a walking pace where the rules are slightly tweaked. Walking Netball sessions will take place on Thursdays, 11:30-12:30.

The rules are essentially the same as the traditional game, but by reducing the speed and taking out jumping, the game becomes much more accessible to those who are less active, injured or have previously been unable to take part due to ongoing illness. With less impact/stress on the joints, Walking Netball leaves plenty more time for lots of laughter and fun.

Since its launch in January 2016, England Netball have been running a number of sessions across the country which have engaged hundreds of women - many of whom haven’t played netball in over 40 years and who’s ages generally range from 30 – 80 years+. The game is proving a real ‘life changer’ and participants are not only seeing an improvement in their general fitness (including lower heart rates and blood pressure), but many have seen improvements with specific physical ailments and mental health too.
