A Soundworks Summer Samba Celebration at Western Leisure Centre!
On Tuesday 8th July, the summer Soundworks term drew to a close with a fantastic outdoor event at Western Leisure Centre. Samba band Jamma de Samba provided a 90-minute percussion workshop, which saw participants, carers and staff performing together on a variety of drums and other percussion instruments. The workshop involved learning a piece from scratch, with each instrument taking a turn to solo. The group was treated to glorious summer weather and even had its own ice cream van come along for the occasion – a delicious way to cool off in the hot weather!
We are now looking forward to the autumn term, which will culminate in the annual Soundworks Christmas party, with guest brass musicians and event not to be missed!
These music sessions form part of our inclusive programme of creative activities for adults and young people with learning disabilities and autism, offering excellent creative experiences for all who attend.
Soundworks, our term-time music-making workshops for adults with learning disabilities and autism, are currently held at Better Cardiff Western Leisure Centre. These inclusive sessions encourage participants to explore sounds, rhythms and instruments in an informal, accessible and safe space. During the sessions, participants explore the fundamental building blocks of music with the support and encouragement of their carers. The sessions also provide an opportunity for carers to develop skills in using music to build up their clients’ levels of social interaction, communication skills and confidence.
A creative space that is fun, friendly and free to attend!
There are two sessions: 11am–12.30pm & 1pm–2.30pm.
Sessions take place at Western Leisure Centre, Ely, Cardiff.
