Senior Club Games at The Sands Centre

The weekend of the 13th and 14th of September 2025, Better are hosting the Senior Club Games at The Sands Leisure Centre, and we’d like you to take part! 

We’re thrilled to invite you to take part in the Senior Club Games 2025 – a fantastic weekend dedicated to fun, friendship, and friendly competition for those aged 60 and over. This exciting event brings together members from across our local leisure centres for a variety of sports, games, and social activities – all designed to keep you active and connected! 

What is the Club Games? 

As part of Better’s mission to improve health and wellbeing in the communities we serve, the Club Games began in London in 2007 and have grown every year since. In 2025, we’re proud to bring the Games to Cumberland for the very first time! 

This is your opportunity to represent your leisure centre, try new sports, meet new people, and enjoy an unforgettable weekend of activity and camaraderie. 

Format 

The Games will feature an exciting mix of pairs, singles, and team competitions across a wide range of sports and activities, including: 

• Pickleball 
• Badminton 
• Table Tennis 
• Walking Football 
• Scrabble & Dominoes 
• Boccia & Carpet Bowls 
• Water Polo 
• Indoor Rowing & Cycling Challenges 
• And much more!  

Travel 

Complimentary transportation is being arranged from Whitehaven Leisure Centre and Penrith Leisure Centre, with additional pick-up points in Workington and Cockermouth. Specific times will be confirmed closer to the event.  
Payment 

Thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, participation in this year’s Club Games is completely free of charge!

11am-1pm: Scavenger Hunt, Rickerby Park 
1pm-2pm: Tea, Coffee and Board Games, Upstairs Bar 
2pm-3.30pm: Water Polo, 20m Pool 

Sunday 14th September 

Location: The Sands Centre 
Time: 9.30am-6pm 

Transportation: Minibus/coach leaving Whitehaven at 7.30am Leaving Sands Centre at 6.15pm.  
(pick up and drop off times to be confirmed for Workington and Cockermouth) 

9.30am-10am: Meet and Greet Socialise, Upstairs Bar 
10am-10.30am: Dance/fitness warmup, Sports Hall 
10.30am-11.15am: Social and quiz, Upstairs Bar 
11.15am-12.30pm: Pickleball, Sports Hall 
11.15am-12.30pm: Scrabble, Upstairs Bar 
12.30pm-1.15pm: Badminton, Sports Hall 
12:30pm-1.15pm: New Age Kurling, Studio 
12.30pm-1.15pm: Dominos, Upstairs Bar
