Summer Open Weekend at The Sands Centre - Carlisle Triathlon
Carlisle Triathlon Returns for 2025 as Part of GLL’s “More Ways to Play” Summer Weekend
Carlisle, UK – May 2025 — Carlisle’s iconic triathlon is back! The Carlisle Sprint Triathlon 2025 is set to make its long-awaited return this summer, offering a unique city-centre race experience that blends competition with community spirit. Organised by the Carlisle Tri Club and hosted at The Sands Centre in partnership with GLL, the event will be held during the GLL Summer Open Weekend, scheduled for Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July, under the theme “More Ways to Play.”
The sprint triathlon will feature a 500m swim in The Sands Centre pool, a 20.4km cycle up to Carlisle Airport, and a 4.9km run through the scenic Rickerby Park. It offers a rare opportunity for athletes who prefer pool-based triathlons, making it especially accessible for first-time participants. The event marks a homecoming for Carlisle Tri Club, which was founded in 2009 and has grown into a 100-strong community of athletes with a passion for inclusive sport.
The triathlon forms part of a packed programme of activities across the GLL Summer Open Weekend. Aimed at families, beginners, and fitness fans alike, the event will also feature:
- Kids swim for £1
- Toddlers World sessions
- Water Safety education
- A Senior Club social event
- Themed Group Fitness classes
- A Triathlon Gym Challenge, exclusive to the weekend
The collaboration between Carlisle Tri Club and GLL reflects a shared commitment to making health, fitness, and community activity more accessible than ever. With The Sands Centre as the focal point of the weekend, local residents and visitors will have the chance to explore new ways to get active, connect with others, and celebrate sport in all its forms.
