Big Swim Day is an opportunity for everybody to demonstrate their passion for a plunge at their local community pool. It is Community Leisure UK’s campaign to celebrate of swimming and pools. Community Leisure UK (CLUK) is the body which represents charitable leisure and culture trusts across England, Scotland and Wales. It will be running across multiple GLL centres between 24th and 26th February.

The Big Swim Day is the first essential part of the wider Community Leisure Save Our Pools Campaign, which they will continue to develop and raise awareness politically and through the media of the challenging landscape. The Big Swim is also being supported by Swim England and Swim Wales.

Swimming pools in the UK are in danger due to high energy prices, hikes in operational costs, and ongoing annual local council funding reductions. As a not-for-profit social enterprise and the UK’s largest operator of pools and provider of swimming lessons, we are celebrating swimming as an activity and highlighting the importance of access to swimming pools within the UK. Rising utility ultimately means that those on the lowest incomes will lose access to swimming and learning to swim.

We want to hear from our customers: what does swimming mean to you? How much impact would it have if you lost access to your local swimming pool?

We will be celebrating Big Swim Day at Kentish Town Sports Centre during our Swim for All sessions between 24th and 26 February so bring your friends, have a great time and in doing so, let everyone know how important continued access to your local public pool is to you and your community.

You Can Help By:

  • Visiting your local pool on Friday 24 February
  • Sharing your passion on social media using the hastags #bigswimday and #saveourpools
  • Tagging your local MP on social media or emailing them a letter urging them to support pools to remain open
