Better, Ramblers and Camden Council team up.
An exciting new initiative is on the horizon for Camden residents, as Better teams up with Camden Council and the Ramblers Association to launch a series of Health and Wellbeing Walks from two key leisure centres, Kentish Town Sports Centre and Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre.
The initiative, still in its preparatory phase, aims to offer gentle, accessible walks that promote physical activity, social connection, and mental wellbeing. These community walks will begin and end at the leisure centres, making use of their convenient locations and welcoming facilities. Walkers will also be able to enjoy post-walk refreshments in the centres’ cafés and communal spaces, turning a simple walk into an opportunity for social interaction and community building.
The Ramblers Association, a national walking charity with a proud tradition of organising over 50,000 walks annually across the UK, brings its expertise and network of experienced volunteers to the project. In collaboration with the council and Better, the vision is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the benefits of regular outdoor activity.
At this stage, Camden Council is reaching out to its pool of trained walking volunteers to gauge interest and availability for supporting the programme. Once enough volunteers have been confirmed, a formal launch date for the initiative will be announced, with walks expected to run from both sites.
This partnership marks a significant step in enhancing community wellbeing through accessible, low-cost health initiatives. It also reflects Better’s continued commitment to supporting not just physical fitness, but also the mental and social health of Camden residents.
Watch this space, more details on walk times, routes, and launch events will follow soon as this exciting community project comes to life.
