Fancy trying one of the fastest growing sports in the world for free this February? Want to put the leap year to good use by getting active and meeting new people? As part of a partnership with GLL, the charitable social enterprise that operates Better leisure centres across the UK, Pickleball England has announced that they will be offering free pickleball taster sessions, across selected Better leisure centres this February 29th, as part of a nationwide campaign to encourage the public to get active on the extra day of the year.

Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre will be offering free Pickleball taster sessions this leap year so join us on Thursday 29th February between 14:00 - 16:00 to try out Pickleball for Free.

Pickleball is a fast and family-friendly racquet sport. Played on a court with a net, you'll need "paddle-like" racquets and a ball with holes in it. While the rules are similar to badminton and tennis, players need to stay within the court boundaries and only the serving side can win a point.

Another basic rule which takes a bit of getting used to is the "two bounce" rule. Broken down this means that the ball is served and the receiving side has to let the ball bounce once before returning, the serving side then also has to then let the ball bounce once before returning again. After that, you can volley or groundstroke until the point is won.

You can play singles or doubles Pickleball which makes it a very social and energetic game.

Pickleball social sessions are programmed throughout the week to allow adults of all abilities to come together and experience the game of Pickleball coordinated by a lead, who will incorporate Warm up, rotational games and cool down. Equipment will be available to hire as part of this session.

A mixture of badminton, table tennis and tennis, this fun sport is increasingly popular across the UK.  Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a curious newcomer, our courts are open for everyone, so why not come along and see what it is all about?
