For this International Women’s Day, on Wednesday 8 March 2023, the theme is #EmbraceEquity and we’ll be targeting women of all ages in the borough to take part in activities Phoenix Fitness Centre during the day.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

At Phoenix Fitness Centre we will be making time in the pool for a women’s only swim. This will take place at 12pm-12.45pm please book via the Better app or website www.better.org . It will be a great chance to swim at your own pace in our 25 meter pool. Swimming is a great way to get fit or improve fitness regardless of age and ability, it is also low impact so will not put pressure on your joints.

We will also be holding a Powerlifting masterclass to be delivered by Melissa Hexter who is a GLL Sport Foundation athlete from the borough. Melissa is a British and European Powerlifting champion who has represented Great Britain at a number of competition all over the world. Come and join her for some expert demonstrations, advice and training tips at 6.30pm-7.30pm, no need to book just turn up and be inspired by an international athlete.

Everyone, everywhere can play a part in helping forge gender equality. From a wide range of IWD campaigns, events, rallies, lobbying and performances - to fitness classes and celebrations - all IWD activity is valid. That's what makes IWD so inclusive worldwide.

International Women’s Day takes place annually on 8th March.
