Up for this month's new fitness challenge? If so, then how fast can you row 1000Meters in?  why not give it a try and find out, maybe even win our prize while you’re at it!

Rowing is a popular exercise meant to mimic the motion of rowing a boat by using one of many machines, the most common being the flywheel rower. It is a great and effective way to burn off a good amount of calories which can help aid in fat loss and also improved cardiovascular health.

The calories brunt through rowing may vary based of a number of factors, including the workout intensity, what level resistance you are using, distance/time which you are rowing, correct posture whilst executing the exercise. A correct posture and technique when rowing is to keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed, chest up, and bringing the machine handle towards your stomach, whilst bending your knees. This movement has to be performing simultaneously in order to be effecting. This type of exercise can promote fat loss when done regularly. When you supplement rowing with a balanced diet, you’ll probably start to lose weight in the form of fat loss. As this is an exercise that helps mobilise fats inside the body so that our system breaks them down and uses as energy.

Another benefit from rowing is the fact that you get a full body workout! Rowing is a nearly complete body exercise, as it stimulates most of the major muscle groups- your lats (latissimus dorsi), upper back (rhomboids), quads, hamstrings, core, biceps and forearms. This puts rowing ahead of other common exercise methods such as running, cycling or doing cardio on any machine in terms of extent of muscles worked at the same time. Contrary to popular belief, rowing power is developed approximately 60% through your legs, and with the other 40% coming from your upper body.

Come down and give this a try on your next session!
