Whether you like to lift heavy weights or prefer bodyweight exercises instead we've got you covered! This month we have chosen Chest/Pectoral muscles as our favourite muscle group

What you need to know:

  • The chest includes some of the larger muscles in the upper body which are used in a lot of our day-to-day actions/activites such as pushing a door open, washing our hair or getting up and down from the floor.
  • Most chest exercises involve pushing the arms away from the body or vice versa, while maintaining a correct posute (shoulders back and relaxed, back straight and chest up)

The Geeky part:

  • The chest is formed of 4 pectoral muscles: Pectoralis Major, Pectoralis Minor, Serratus anterior and subclavius
  • Chest muscles are responsible for moving the arms across the body and up & down as well as other movemenets such as flexion, adduction and rotation

Exercises include the following:

Standard push-ups, Wide-grip push-ups, incline/decline push-ups (incline is where your hands are placed higher than the ground whilst decline is where the lower body is higher than the upper body-i.e having your legs elevated), close grip push-ups.

Bench press-barbell & dumbbell (incline,flat,decline)

Chest FLy's- cable machine or dumbbell

Chest press machine

Floor presses

Plate pressout

Why not incorporate one or more of the above exercises into your next workout? If you need any help performing the exercises please reffer to one of our fitness instructors in centre for further help and guidance.
