On the Bank Holiday Monday 26th May the Alex Yee Ladywell Arena hosted our inaugural British Triathlon Swim Bike Run mini event.

The event was open to young people aged 6 -14 years and consisted of a 1km run, 5km cycle followed by another 1km run.

All 20 of the 20 slots available were booked, with 80% of those lining up on the start line having never done a multi discipline event before.

This fun non competitive event was set up to build on the legacy of the centre now being known as the Alex Yee Ladywell Arena. The hope was that this event would inspire the next generation of Alex Yee's who started his triathlon journey at the centre.

Those taking part were cheered on by parents and siblings of which there must have been at least 30 people cheering on the children each time they ran/cycled past the start/finish line.

The event received nothing but positive feedback from those who took part, with many participants and parents looking forward to the next one. With one parent requesting for us to increase the capacity at the next event so more children could get the same enjoyment their child did as they felt more children should be able to enjoy this fun event.

Not only did those taking part enjoy the event but they commented on how professional and smooth the event ran so were very complimentary of the team at the Alex Yee Ladywell Arena.

Following the success of this event we are hoping to run another one in the school summer holidays and open it up to more young people. With the long term aim of this becoming a regular holiday activity and inspire more young people to take up Alex Yee's mantle from Lewisham to the World
