Better Gym Walthamstow Stadium & Peter May Sports Centre in Waltham Forest (London) alongside other Better Leisure centres have been designated Warm Spaces by GLL, the not-for-profit charitable social enterprise that operates on behalf of London boroughs.

The new initiative has been set up in response to this winter’s cost of living crisis and will offer anyone living in the neighbourhood of a participating leisure centre a warm welcome, comfortable seating, charge a phone or device, use free WiFi or even have a hot shower.

The Warm Space will be open to all, both leisure centre members and non-members alike. Days and Timings are as follows:

• Better Gym Walthamstow Stadium
  • Fridays 12pm – 4pm & Sundays 2pm – 5pm.
• Peter May Sports Centre
  • Mondays 9am – 11am & Thursday 11am – 2pm.

Commenting on the Warm Spaces initiative Monique Weekes, General Manager at Better Gym Walthamstow Stadium & Peter May Sports Centre: “As facilities at the heart of our local community we quickly became aware that a number of local residents were concerned that they might struggle to heat their homes, concerned with electric usage this winter and as a charitable social enterprise we wanted to help.”

Recent years GLL “Better” facilities are more than just leisure centres as they have opened their doors to local communities facing hardships and this time is no different. In light of recent economic crisis the centres are ideally suited to serve as warm spaces, which are easily accessible, known to everyone and a natural meeting place.  Our staff will be on hand to offer a warm welcome to anyone wishing to make the most of our warm space during the difficult months ahead.

Participants will benefit from the below free activities across both centres

Activities:  Warm space, Free Internet, Free Shower, Free phone, tablets or laptop charger, Tea & Coffee, Biscuits, Board Games, Movies, table tennis, Badminton, soft play (subject to availability & locations may vary).
