The first edition of the Girls In Motion Junior Open was  organised at the National Squash Centre. This England Squash copper sanctioned tournament is the first of its kind in format to encourage more first-time tournament players.

Girls In Motion is a charity aiming to increase female participation in squash at all ages and abilities plus provide more opportunities for female coaches and volunteers. 37 girls entered the tournament with age categories ranging from under 9 up to under 17.

Different types of squash balls were used for different age groups. The under 9 used a blue dot ball, the under 11 used a red dot ball, and the under 13 upwards used a single yellow dot ball. The under 9 age category had an adapted serve with the service box extended one metre closer towards the front wall.

A fantastic day with lots of great squash. The tournament organisers hope that following this tournament that the players will be encouraged to play in future England Squash tournaments.

The National Squash Centre runs two Girls' only (ages 5-9) squash sessions per week. All equipment is provided free of charge from the session coach and no previous experience is required.
