Stadium Refurb Update
The long-anticipated refurbishment of thePalmer Park Leisure Centre athletics track has hit an unexpected delay, with completion now rescheduled for August 20th. Originally due to be finished earlier this summer, the project has been pushed back due to a combination of intermittent bad weather and surface temperatures exceeding 60 degrees.
Officials overseeing the project cited recent spells of rain and unpredictable weather patterns as a key factor slowing down resurfacing work, which requires dry conditions to ensure proper application and curing of materials.
In addition, contractors have faced difficulties in the laying process during the heatwaves, meaning that when the track gets too hot it also affects the application of the materials.
General Manager, Rob Ansell, has said:
“We understand this news will be disappointing for athletes, schools, and community groups who use the track regularly. We’re working closely with the contractors to ensure the work is completed to a high standard and as quickly as conditions allow.”
Despite the delay, progress is continuing when weather permits. Once completed, the refurbished facility will feature a renewed all-weather surface, improved drainage, and upgraded markings—enhancing the track for both competitive and recreational users.
In the meantime, local clubs and athletes are being encouraged to use alternative training spaces. Further updates on the project’s progress will be shared in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your patience, and we promise that once the track project is completed, it will be worth the wait.
