Forever Young People
The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire visited 'Forever Young People' who are running an innovative Friday evening youth diversion project, in partnership with Sport England, at Hatfield Leisure Centre. These sessions run from 6pm until 8pm every Friday.
Forever Young People (FYP) have been nominated for the High Sheriff Award. The awards are for groups empowering young people, supporting them to develop leadership skills, and enabling them to volunteer in their community.
The annual High Sheriff Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate some of the voluntary organisations who are helping to make our county better.
The High Sheriff for 2021, Lionel Wallace DL, plans to use his year in office to highlight and encourage opportunities for young people to advance, be confident, committed and community minded.
The High Sheriff Awards will recognise and celebrate groups working across the following themes:
- Empowering young people to become today’s leaders
- Supporting young people to serve in unique or new areas of community life
- Promoting youth engagement in the Magistracy
FYP aims to engage these young people in local community and to build their self-esteem, which will enable them to unlock their potential.
Sadly, our society seems increasingly willing to ‘disregard’ young people; all too easily excluding them from schools, closing community youth facilities and generally taking away the opportunity for young people to build their identities or have any feelings of self-worth.
Where possible FYP creates a safe environment in which they are encouraged and supported to build the foundation of their fundamental development and growth.
Sparking the initiative of social change, to break the barrier for young people and their community.
FYP run their session every Friday evening from 6pm-8pm on our All Weather Pitches (based at the back of the centre)
