A new fitness class launching this August at Carterton Leisure Centre aims to support women navigating the physical and emotional changes of menopause through targeted strength training.

With an estimated 80% of women experiencing menopause by age 54, and over 5.1 million women aged 45 to 55 in the UK alone, the need for dedicated support is growing. Many women experience symptoms such as weight gain—especially around the midsection—decreased bone density, and a loss of muscle strength and elasticity, particularly around the pelvic floor.

Research shows that lean muscle mass can decline by 3% per decade from age 30, with a dramatic 30% drop in strength between the ages of 50 and 70. While cardio exercise has its place, experts recommend resistance training and high-intensity power workouts as the most effective ways to rebuild strength and maintain mobility during midlife.

In response, Carterton Leisure Centre is launching a brand-new Menopause Strength class on Thursday 21st August, running weekly from 7:15–8:00pm for a 6-week pilot programme until 25th September. The final session will include a 30-minute Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences in a welcoming environment.

Designed specifically for women preparing for perimenopause or currently managing menopause symptoms, the studio-based class focuses on:

  • Strength Training: Functional exercises like squats, lunges, and deadlifts
  • Pelvic Floor Work: Targeted movements to support core stability
  • Pilates & Core Exercises: Improving posture, balance, and flexibility

This empowering new class offers more than just physical benefits—it builds confidence, connection, and community. All fitness levels are welcome.

Bookings open 7 days in advance for members or 5 days for non members.
