Hendon Gymnastics Club is a highly renowned, professionally coached gymnastics club operated from within Hendon Leisure Centre. The purpose-built multi-functional gymnasium, allows highly skilled coaches to appropriately and effectively coach gymnasts through long term development. This has led to a number of gymnasts from Hendon Gymnastics Club competing on the national stage!

In early October, Curtis Epstein-Richmond (youth men 9-12) competed at the British Championships held in Birmingham, Utilita Arena. This was Curtis’ first year of competing at the elite FIG level, and he managed to achieve new personal best on scores, qualifying into the final in 7th place and moving up a spot to finish 6th overall. A few weeks later on the 16th of October 2022, Curtis competed in the English Championships and came in 1st place, making him an English Champion! We are all so proud of Curtis and the dedication that he has put into his gymnastics.

In addition, Samuel Newman-Kemp (Junior men 13-16) also competed at the British Championships earlier this month, coming in tenth place and just missing out on the top eight final. This was Sam’s first time competing in the junior age category at the age of 13, and he managed to achieve new personal best on scores, a fantastic accomplishment. At the English Championships, Sam placed 3rd in 13-14 men age group and has been retained on the GB development squad due to his strong performances this year. Well done Sam, keep up the good work!

At the English Championships in the silver level competition, Charlotte Ellis won bronze in the 13-14 women age group, and Aaron Epstein-Richmond and Sebastian Roter placed 11th and 14th respectively in the 9-10 men age group. Fantastic achievements from all three gymnasts who continue to work hard and get better every single day.

Everyone at Better Barnet would like to congratulate the staff and gymnasts at Hendon Gymnastics Club on what has been a fantastic year. Gymnastics is an extremely difficult sport requiring flexibility, core strength, balance, upper and lower body strength, power and mental focus, as well as discipline. It also requires an unbelievable amount of dedication, something of which is exemplified in every gymnast at Hendon.

Well done to all, and we all hope to see this success continue next year and onwards!
