Clissold Leisure Centre 2024 Investments

After a successful refurbishment of the sports hall and gym at Clissold Leisure Centre and following a public consultation, the next phase of improvements are well underway.

During this time, there may be a slight disruption with access to some areas of the centre.

Better Changing Rooms

We're building brand-new changing rooms for the sports hall, combining the current rooms to create larger male and female changing rooms. The new changing facilities will include shower cubicles, larger toilets and dedicated accessible changing.

New Group Cycle Studio

The current Group Cycle Studio has been redeveloped to increase capacity for the introduction of your brand-new Elevate group cycle performance classes. The revamped studio features the latest interactive Technogym features, air conditioning, lighting and a new sound system.

Soft Play

Lastly, the current office block which was previously located upon entrance of Clissold Leisure Centre has now been demolished and a brand-new 4-storey soft play is now open for children to enjoy.

Soft Play - NOW OPEN

For children under 10, the new 4-storey soft play area includes interactive play equipment, party rooms, seating areas for parents and a dedicated toddler area so that children can explore a range of different materials, textures and colours. The theme of our soft play area is the fantastic Clissold Park.

Introducing Elevate Classes

Elevate classes are the introduction of a new range of immersive cardio, strength and endurance fitness classes that'll challenge you like never before. Using immersive music, lighting and body tracking devices - no two sessions will be the same. Even better, to allow even more members of the community to elevate their fitness, the group cycle studio capacity has been extended from 35 to 70.

The new Elevate Class studio, along with 4 new individual changing rooms would replace the current health and fitness changing rooms on level 2. This additional studio will also replace the mezzanine studio which would become the management offices.

Both new studios will feature new lighting and sound systems, along with brand-new air conditioning units. Elevate Group Cycle Classes will start from 15th July with Elevate HIIT classes on Level 2 starting in September 2024.

General facility refurbishment

We will also carry out refurbishments to a range of other facilities within the leisure centre. This includes expanding the dry changing room areas, and installing new modern toilets, showers, vanity units and changing cubicles. The new changing rooms would be relocated to the current basement sports hall changing rooms. This relocation would allow us to combine the current changing rooms, making two much larger male and female changing rooms. We’d aim to open the new changing rooms in late summer 2024.

Please note the current gym changing rooms would not close until the new changing rooms have been completed.

We are also plan to replace the main entrance doors to Clissold Leisure Centre as well as replacing the flooring throughout the majority of the centre.

FAQs

Will the leisure centre close during the refurbishment works?

No, the refurbishment will be conducted in phases to minimise the impact on customer activity areas

Studio 2 (Functional Zone) is being lost to office space. Will we get the studio back?

Studio 2 will be converted into the new management office to make way for the new soft play structure. A new studio will be created in place of the old gym changing rooms. This studio will be open to the public for functional training when not in use for classes.

What is Elevate?

Elevate is a fitness class like you've never experienced before. This class is a full body workout which combines cardiovascular training with strength, power and endurance to create a unique session each time.

ELEVATE isn't your average fitness. It's a whole new experience that immerses your senses and pushes your limits. Taught by our qualified instructors, using state-of-the-art equipment, music and lighting - no two sessions will ever feel the same.

Will there be any toilets or changing rooms next to the gym now the male and female changing rooms are being relocated to the basement?

Yes, alongside the new Elevate studio, 4 individual changes will be built. These changing rooms will include changing space and toilets. Each room will be accessible friendly.

Why has Group Cycle been disrupted the most and why is the studio still closed?

We appreciate your patience with the ongoing disruption to Group Cycle classes. It was necessary to make this studio a temporary gym during the main gym refurbishment. Although all classes continue to run as programmed, we appreciate the sports hall does not create the best atmosphere.

The Group Cycle studio will be one of the first areas to under go refurbishment and is proposed to be completed by Early Spring. During this time Group Cycle classes will remain in the Sports Hall.

Can we use another centre while the refurbishment is taking place or will you discount my membership?

No, unlike the gym refurbishment, all activity areas will be available to use. The building works will be taking place behind the scenes.

Some walkways will be unavailable for short durations, however other access to activity areas will be made available.

When will the refurbishment be completed?

The proposed phases are as follows:

Phase 1 – Early Spring 2024

Elevate Cycle (Group Cycle Refurbishment)

Phase 2 – End of Spring 2024

Reception alterations & Soft Play Installation and Mezzanine Flooring

Phase 3 – Beginning of Summer 2024

New Male & Female Changing Rooms, Basement Flooring and Studio 1 Refurbishment

Phase 4 – End of Summer 2024

Elevate HITT Studio & Individual Changing Rooms, Main Entrance Door replacement, 1st floor flooring and general building decoration

When will the poolside changing facilities be upgraded?

Consultation on the poolside changing facilities and refurbishment options will take place towards the end of the year, once these proposed refurbishments are completed.
