The next phase of improvements are well underway here at Clissold Leisure Centre. During this time, there may be a slight disruption with access to some areas of the centre. 

 

Poolside and Changing Room Improvements

We’re making big improvements to your poolside experience this Autumn and into 2026. The work, which started on 13th October 2025, includes giving the pools and changing rooms a much-needed refresh to make them brighter, more sustainable and enjoyable for everyone. 

What’s happening? 

  • The pool surrounds are being upgraded for a safer, fresher look. 
  • All poolside changing rooms will be upgraded. 
  • Toddler pool improvements – Brand-new dedicated individual changing spaces, plus a group changing area with direct access to both the toddler and main pools. 

Key dates you need to know

Training Pool closure: 13th October – 1 December 2025 

  • Swim lessons will move to the main pool or alternative Hackney centres. 
  • Swim school members should have now received direct communication from us with information on your child’s swimming lessons.  

Training Pool changing room closure: 13th October until Spring 2026 

  • Customers can still use the main pool changing rooms if needed. 
  • Swim-ready entry is encouraged. 

Main Pool and Toddler Pools and changing room upgrades 

Once all the work has been completed in the training pool and changing rooms in Spring 2026, we will be moving onto upgrading the main pool and changing rooms and the toddler pool and changing rooms.  
We will be in touch nearer the time with more information on timelines.

What has happened so far...

Better Changing Rooms

We're building brand-new changing rooms for the sports hall, combining the current rooms to create larger male and female changing rooms. The new changing facilities will include shower cubicles, larger toilets and dedicated accessible changing. 

New Group Cycle Studio

The current Group Cycle Studio has been redeveloped to increase capacity for the introduction of your brand-new Elevate group cycle performance classes. The revamped studio features the latest interactive Technogym features, air conditioning, lighting and a new sound system.

Soft Play

Lastly, the current office block which was previously located upon entrance of Clissold Leisure Centre has now been demolished and a brand-new 4-storey soft play is now open for children to enjoy. 

Introducing Elevate Classes

Elevate classes are the introduction of a new range of premium immersive cardio, strength and endurance fitness classes that'll challenge you like never before. Using immersive music, lighting and Technogym body tracking tech - no two sessions will be the same. Even better, to allow even more members of the community to elevate their fitness, the group cycle studio capacity has been extended from 35 to 70.

The new Elevate Boot Camp Class studio, along with 4 new individual changing rooms have replaced the current health and fitness changing rooms on level 2. 

Both new studios will feature new lighting and sound systems, along with brand-new air conditioning units.

Soft Play

For children under 10, the new 4-storey soft play area includes interactive play equipment, party rooms, seating areas for parents and a dedicated toddler area so that children can explore a range of different materials, textures and colours. The theme of our soft play area is the fantastic Clissold Park.

Additional Upgrades following Opening of the Soft Play

We’re pleased to confirm that following customer feedback we have now created a mezzanine over the current lower level Functional Zone. This has allowed us to extend the available seating and customer experience within the new Soft Play area of the Centre.

There is now also an additional wall to partition the Soft Play area from the reception, helping to control the noise levels when entering the Centre.

Finally, access control to the Centre has been upgraded, creating an improved environment for users as well as allowing smoother access for those who have booked activities.

Will the leisure centre close during the refurbishment works?

No, the refurbishment will be conducted in phases to minimise the impact on customer activity areas

What is Elevate?

Elevate is a fitness class like you've never experienced before. This class is a full body workout which combines cardiovascular training with strength, power and endurance to create a unique session each time.

ELEVATE isn't your average fitness. It's a whole new experience that immerses your senses and pushes your limits. Taught by our qualified instructors, using state-of-the-art equipment, music and lighting - no two sessions will ever feel the same.

Will there be any toilets or changing rooms next to the gym now the male and female changing rooms are being relocated to the basement?

Yes, alongside the new Elevate HIIT studio, 4 individual changes have been built. These changing rooms include changing space and toilets. Each room will be accessible friendly.

Can we use another centre while the refurbishment is taking place or will you discount my membership?

No, unlike the gym refurbishment, all activity areas will be available to use. The building works will be taking place behind the scenes.

Some walkways will be unavailable for short durations, however other access to activity areas will be made available.

When will the refurbishment be completed?

The next and final phase of investment at Clissold Leisure Centre will come in Phase 4, which includes the refurbishment of the swimming pool changing rooms. 

We'll be in touch very soon with further information and timelines of the exciting final upgrades to the centre. 

When will the poolside changing facilities be upgraded?

The poolside changing facilities and refurbishment options will take place towards the end of the year, we will be in touch with regards to timelines as soon as we have finalised information to share.
