March was a busy month for the teams at Hammersmith and Lillie Road; with a number of core events having taken place with great success.

Four of the management team are tested their mettle on the rowing machines, clocking in daily mileage for the Cancer Research Great Row. Becki Long, Charlie Rowan, Gemma Hill and Ellie Smith all signed up to the event, setting up just giving pages, and even a wager amongst themselves against who will complete the 42km in the shortest cumulative time spend on the rowing machines. Gemma Hill was the first to complete the huge total of mileage.

On International Women’s Day, Fitness instructor Nick Lyndon, receptionist and GLL Sport Foundation athlete Emma Harrison, and Manager Becki Long set up an event in the gym, whereby the attendees to the women only strength and conditioning class, and any other female member, or interested member of the public, could participate in a Push & Pull Competition.

This Push & Pull allowed everyone to work together, and slowly work up to their best possible effort on bench press, and then deadlift; 10 women participated, working as a team, supporting each other and worked up to personal best efforts on both lifts, cumulatively lifting an astounding 10,800kg between them, across all of their lifts – truly an example of the strength of Woman-kind.

Finally, through the month of March (and end of February) Hammersmith and Lillie Road saw 6 work experience students come through our doors in partnership with West London College. This enabled us to give young people an insight in to the working environment, covering aspects of health and safety, health and fitness and customer care.
