During the October half term holiday GLL teamed up with Phoenix Farm to provide camps for 5-11year olds, the farm provides a learning resource for the school, local community groups and offers volunteering opportunities for local residents. These camps provide children and their families the chance to have a health lunch at the farm and sporting activities at the Phoenix Fitness Centre which take place in the sports hall. Activities included mini tennis skills, team games and ball skills taught by a qualified coach.

These camps provide a vital opportunity for children and their families to get out during the holidays and meet new people, have a health meal and take part in exercise. There were over 20 children taking part in the sports session at the Phoenix Fitness Centre which is very pleasing to see.  It is hoped that the next camps will run in the February half term again giving local families the chance to experience a health lifestyle during the holidays.

GLL and Phoenix Farm worked together over the summer holidays as well to provide opportunities for the local community, with good numbers attending each week. These camps give children the chance to be active using great local facilities, many people have said how these camps stop children sitting down all day watching TV or on their computers, giving them the chance to exercise.   The camps also help children to help develop their hand eye co-ordination skills, which is very important given that these would not have developed as  much as would of over the last couple of years due to the pandemic and lack of sporting opportunities. It was also great to introduce many of the children to tennis and see their skills develop as the session went on.

We will be running more camps in the February half term so please keep an eye on the website and in centres for details.
