WeSwim Gala returns to Ironmonger Row Baths for a second year of inspiration and achievement

Ironmonger Row Baths was once again proud to host the annual WeSwim Gala this October - a celebration of inclusion, progress, and the joy of swimming. Now in its second year at the historic Islington venue, the event brought together disabled swimmers from six clubs across London for a day filled with camaraderie, determination, and achievement.

Participants travelled from across the capital - a remarkable commitment, especially for those who are wheelchair users or have mobility challenges. The atmosphere was electric as swimmers took to the pool to showcase the progress they’ve made over the past year. Many were cheered on by friends, family, and volunteers who filled the balcony, celebrating each stroke and every personal milestone.

A particularly special moment came when the Mayor of Islington attended to present medals to the participants. The gesture was deeply meaningful for many swimmers, who said they felt recognised and valued by their local community.

The event was supported by an incredible team of 33 volunteers, who helped both on the day and in the lead-up - from designing the programme to baking home-made treats for participants and supporters. Their dedication and enthusiasm helped make the gala such a memorable success.

For many of the swimmers, the WeSwim Gala is the highlight of the year - a chance to connect, compete, and celebrate how far they’ve come.

Ironmonger Row Baths and GLL are honoured to partner with WeSwim in creating such an empowering and joyful event, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back again next year.
