Islington Football Development Partnership (IFDP) deliver SoccaSkills sessions at the centre for children aged 5 to 9 years old, which aim to provide an introduction to games and basic skills as well as providing a platform for players to learn and move on to competitive play.

Our football coaches will be running a weekly session outside on the football pitches between 4:30-5:30pm, and it is available to book now!

Pete Samways, Football Development Officer at IFDP, had this to say about the new session, “we’ve added another session on Mondays to give parents another option when looking to get their kids involved with our sessions at Sobell.

Our existing sessions on Tuesdays & Thursdays have been a great success, with lots of children signing up since we resumed post-lockdown. If anyone has kids that like football and want to make a start with playing the beautiful game, then I’d encourage parents to bring them down to give it a go.

It’s so important that as young players they learn to enjoy the game first, so they keep coming back. We try and give all the kids lots of opportunities to succeed with learning new skills, scoring goals, and making new friends. The aim is to make it as fun as possible, so we have lifelong participants of the sport.

In terms of the types of activities we use, we focus mainly on a few things: movement skills, individual ball work, and small-sided games. We try to give the players the fundamentals they need to get started, so that when they start to push on further as players they have a god range of technical skills to use when going on to play at school or for other clubs.”

SoccaSkills at Sobell Leisure Centre runs from 4:30-5:30pm on:
