Better, are a charitable social enterprise, and supporting the Waltham Forest community is a core value.  We work with the local organisations and of course you, our loyal members, to make a difference. Leytonstone Leisure Centre and Walthamstow Leisure Centre were our sites for our customers to donate Easter eggs which have been dropped off to the children ward at Whipps Cross Hospital. Thanks for the donations!

You may also remember last month we had a big borough wide celebration for International Women’s Day but did you know what followed on from that? There was an additional dance class added to the exercise class timetable at Leyton Leisure Centre and there is now an informal women only squash group. If you have any questions about the women only squash group or want to sign up email Daniel.Bank@GLL.ORG alternatively you can ask for the form at Walthamstow Leisure Centre reception. We are listening to your comments and we are still looking into the logistics of adding a new women only swim night in the borough. We will let you know if we get the green light.

We have made several positive changes for our juniors.  Juniors was ages 11-15 but now we have extended it to 17 years old. Once a member turn 16 years old they will have the option to convert to full membership if they want to or they can remain a Junior and continue to exercise at the Junior time. All centres have added extra Junior Activities such as badminton and table tennis. We have created Junior fitness classes to their timetables and we have put on bookable Adult and Child gym sessions at all times which allows an adult to monitor their child in the gym outside of traditional Junior Gym slots.

April is a special month for carers as it is Active April and Carers UK will be promoting the benefit of physical activity to its members. Better have forged a close partnership and have a limited membership offer to promote alongside both new sessions existing for carers.  If you are interested in this membership please email Daniel.Bank@GLL.ORG or attend our Carers’ Open day at Chingford Leisure Centre on the 21st of April from 11am-3pm. At the event there will be a basic circuits class (lower intensity), table tennis, and swimming which is all free if you can prove that you are a carer.
