The first edition of the Manchester Squash Academy Scholarship was awarded at the National Squash Centre to eight Manchester residents. The scholarship is supported by MCRactive, Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) and in partnership with Tecnifibre and 305squash. The presentation is the culmination of an eighteen-month project by National Squash Centre Head Coach Thomas Fairhurst. The scholarship aims to support children who enjoy playing squash, show enthusiasm to learn and improve their skills. Many of the children have begun competing in England Squash tournaments across England.

The players awarded the scholarship received all the equipment required to train and compete in squash, including premium squash rackets from Tecnifibre and clothing from 305squash. Alongside their equipment, the players have been awarded group and individual coaching sessions at the National Squash Centre as part of the Manchester Squash Academy.

The recipients started on the community squash programme delivered across four sites in Manchester. The programme offers squash sessions for children aged five plus in the junior beginners before progressing to more advanced sessions. At the top of the pathway is the invitational Manchester Squash Academy. The Manchester Squash Academy is a legacy programme of the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, established to develop future squash talent. The academy attracts the best juniors from around Manchester and the wider squash community, inviting them to train with players of similar ability at the National Squash Centre. Since 2002, players from the programme have represented their county team, regional team and the England national junior team.
