Staff and customers at Gosforth Leisure Centre enjoyed a day of celebration as the centre reached its 50th anniversary since opening in 1968.  The centre is managed by the UK's largest leisure social enterprise GLL; 2018 marks 25 years since the not-for-profit trust was established.

Gosforth was transported back to the 60s with staff wearing traditional fancy dress and the original manager who opened the centre in attendance.  Customers and guests enjoyed a free buffet and raffle prizes for Better facilities, with entertainment including a DJ and bouncy castle for the little ones.

General Manager Craig Howell said "It was great to see everyone coming together to celebrate all of the good work which has taken place over the past 50 years.  Our centre provides leisure and learning for all ages and it was great to see customers and staff, past and present, who at some point have all enjoyed what Gosforth Leisure Centre has to offer.  Here's to the next 50 years!"

Leonard Netts, who is pictured cutting the cake, was the original architect when the leisure centre was built.

Craig said "It was a great honour to welcome Leonard back to the centre again and thanks to him for coming along to celebrate with us.  I'd also like to say a special thank you to the centre staff and in particular Anthony Kennedy, Doree Irvine, Susan Lant and Carol Home who made the day such a great success."
