Meet Ken.

The oldest spinner in town! Ken turns 80 next year!

As a former PE teacher, amongst other subjects, in his working career and as a former Elswick Harrier and Tyne Rowing Club participant in his spare time he’s been involved in fitness throughout his adult life.

Ken came into our gym on the very first day we opened and has been coming ever since.

In that time he has fought off prostate cancer and has had two knee replacements but he didn’t let these or anything else deter him.

He attends the gym twice a day five times per week and is a big fan of our group exercise classes in particular.

Although he attends a variety of classes, including our recently introduced Strength class, his favourite class is definitely Group Cycle.

As well as our instructor led group cycle classes Ken is also a fan of our virtual fitness classes as well, which enable him to come and take part in cycle sessions any times that suits him.

As he’s been coming for a few years now he is well known to all the staff and he has seen our centre go through a few changes over the years including a few changes in personnel.

When asked about the current group of staff and class instructors he said:

‘My favourite instructor is Joanne and my favourite manager is Joanne (although it was Joanne who interviewed him for this article).’

However, he also added that if Wayne, Milly, Kelly or Geordie were stood in front of him they would be his favourite too - so he’s very diplomatic.

His belief when it comes to fitness is to just keep moving.  His motto is that it’s better to wear out than to rust out.

We have fitness classes and membership packages available for all ages from 11 to 80 years and older and you can find more information on each of them below.
