Following a record number of nominations, the finalists for the 2022 York Sports Awards were celebrated on 30th June at University of York. Better sponsored 3 awards in the Young Achievers Category; Young Female Sportsperson, Young Male Sportsperson, and Young Disability Sportsperson, all of which were presented by GLL CEO Peter Bundey.

It was a welcome return for the York Sports Awards following a 3 year absence. The Awards seeks to celebrate those across York who play, coach, organise, volunteer and support sport and physical activity.

In attendance at the Awards, Partnership Manager for Better York, Paul Bickle said “it was a pleasure to be able to sponsor the awards for Young Achievers and attend the Awards evening to see the winners announced. It is very important to recognise and celebrate the achievements of sports people in York, especially young athletes as it is a key element of their development. The winners and finalists have all demonstrated fantastic achievements in their chosen sport or activity and are truly a credit to York.”

Better York extends Congratulations to the winners of the Young Achievers Awards:

Winner of the Young Female Sportsperson: Paris Smith

Winner of the Young Male Sportsperson: Maks Makowski

Winner of the Young Disability Sportsperson: Matthew Brough
