Its that time of year again… the kids have broken up, the weather is getting hotter, the nights are staying lighter, holidays are approaching and the gym is getting put off until tomorrow. The last thing we want to be doing on a hot day is making ourselves even hotter by going for a workout indoors when we could be out making the most of the nice weather whilst it's here!

So, how can you keep active during the summer?

  • Workout at home - mix up your workouts with a short High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session. Pick 5 body weight exercises, perform each exercise for 40 seconds and rest for 20 seconds, repeat 4 times and you’ve done a 20 minute heart rate boosting workout!

  • Exercise in the morning - set your alarm clock earlier and fit in a workout before work and then you’ve got the rest of your day to enjoy the weather!

  • Go for a walk - arguably the most underrated form of exercise! Get the best of both- switch your morning incline walk on the treadmill for pounding the pavement outside and discover the mood boosting exercise without missing out on the sunshine, and you can still enjoy your favourite podcasts in your ears too. Aim for 10,000 steps per day!

Don’t forget we can't all maintain our fitness 365 days per year, its okay to have a break or reduce the amount of exercise when we are busy. Don’t get disheartened or feel guilty. Accept it, own it and know you’ll get back in to it when you feel ready!
