Finding a Fitness Family at Llanishen Leisure Centre
When Fiona first stepped through the doors of Llanishen Leisure Centre, she was simply looking for a way to stay fit to support her hockey training. What she discovered was so much more – a welcoming community, a place to recover and grow, and a fitness family she now couldn’t imagine being without.
“I initially joined as a Corporate member many years ago to attend classes and keep fit for hockey,” Fiona explains. “I tried lots of different classes, and the staff were amazing when I first started using the gym.”
That support became even more important after knee surgery in 2016. The team at Llanishen helped Fiona with a tailored rehabilitation programme, guiding her recovery and keeping her confidence high.
Although Fiona has since retired from hockey, her fitness journey is stronger than ever. For her, Llanishen Leisure Centre isn’t just about staying active – it’s about connection, community, and joy.
“It feels like another community,” she says. “You see the same people at classes and in the gym, and the instructors are wonderful. Instead of waiting for the annual work Christmas party, I get to dance every week in Zumba classes!”
Now, Fiona’s Zumba sessions are a highlight of her week – a chance to let loose, stay healthy, and share the fun with her fitness family.
“I wouldn’t be without them,” she smiles.
At Llanishen Leisure Centre, Fiona’s story is a reminder of what fitness can really bring: not just strength and recovery, but friendships, laughter, and a sense of belonging.
