Neuroactive Transition Session
NeuroActive is a free exercise programme designed to support people of all ages and abilities living with neurological conditions (a condition that affects the brain or spinal cord). Examples of conditions where exercise is safe and generally recommended are a stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.
Led by a team of experienced NHS physiotherapists and rehabilitation assistants, NeuroActive aims to empower individuals to stay active, improve physical fitness, and manage their health more independently within the community.
NeuroActive may be suitable for you if you have a neurological condition that affects your brain or spinal cord and you are looking to improve mobility, flexibility, balance, strength or cardiovascular fitness.
At NeuroActive, you’ll receive a personalised exercise programme tailored to your goals and abilities. Sessions are held in an NHS therapy gym equipped with a range of equipment.
You’ll be supported every step of the way by a dedicated therapy team.
In the final stages of Neuroactive, you will receive a transition to a local Better centre like Kentish Town Sports Centre, Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, and Pancras Square Leisure Centre. This includes having a therapist accompany you to your first session, helping you build confidence to continue your fitness journey independently, as well as having one of our fitness instructors being in attendance to ensure you know how to use all equipment safely and properly.
Finally, you will receive guidance around accessible rates to transition join a Better gym.
To start the Neuroactive journey, contact your GP who can refer you to the physiotherapy team running NeuroActive within the Camden Neurology and Stroke Service. If you are known to the team already you can email cnwl.cnssneuroactive@nhs.net directly.
Once referred, accompaniment by a physiotherapist and one of our fitness instructors will be offered for the sessions.
