At Thornton Heath we’re passionate about the environment. 2022 has been a challenging year with energy costs spiralling and unfortunately unlike the domestic market, the Ofgem price caps do not apply to businesses. We've invested heavily in Green technology and we're proud that the centre is now more energy efficient than the typical building of its size. We want to tell you just some of the things we've implemented recently and tell you how you can help us fight back and turn your local leisure centre to be carbon neutral by 2030.

  • 50% of our light fixtures are now LEDs.
  • We’ve reduced the speed on some pumps that we’ve been able to in order to reduce consumption.
  • Invertors and timers in place on eligible equipment and lights.
  • Local controls in place for lights.
  • Sensors on urinals to ensure they are not constantly running.
  • Gym equipment turned off during low usage periods.
  • Trained our staff to be more environmentally conscious.
  • Any much more!

What we have planned?

  • We're in advanced consultations to have pool covers fitted to both our pools. This will reduce the volume of heat lost and reduce the amount of water evaporation.
  • We're going to be converting even more lights to LEDs.
  • Ongoing education for our staff in order to better manage day to day energy consumption.
  • Reacting to daily environmental conditions by altering timers / temperatures were possible.

So what can you do to help us and the environment?

  • Turning off lights when leaving areas.
  • Recycling where possible – note blue roll is not recyclable!
  • Reporting any leaks to members of staff.
  • Reducing your shower time to just three minutes.
  • Turn off fans when leaving areas.
