The Royal Borough of Greenwich is competing at The Championship (formerly known as the Mini Marathon) in the morning of the 1st of October and London Youth Games Cross Country on the 19th of November. Are you are the parent, coach or teacher of a middle distance runner? We are looking for more young people to trial out for the team.

To get involved please complete a 2k or 5k Park Run at any Royal Borough of Greenwich location on the 10th or the 17th of September and email the form at the bottom of article with evidence  of the official time to Borough Team Organiser, Daniel Bank. If a young person is unable to take part there are still other ways to get selected so please can their guardian get in contact with Daniel.Bank@GLL.ORG.

For the Cross Country a large amount of selections will be based on the performances at the secondary school cross country race on the 12th of October in Avery Hill which is organised by local athletics club Cambridge Harriers.

In the Championship the race distance will be 2.6km all participants. There are races for boys and girls separately in the following age groups are U13, U15, and U17 which are the official UKA age groups. For more details on these age groups please click the link. The Championship is a road race which takes place on the last section of the official London marathon, starting at Temple and finishing at Buckingham Palace.

London Youth Games Cross Country is the first event of the 2023 season. There is an extra age group for U11s which allows for Year 6 students to take part and there are different distances around the hilly grass course at Hampstead Heath. The London Youth Games is a season long event with up to 30 sporting competitions contributing to the capital wide league standings called the Jubilee Trophy. In 2022 the Royal Borough of Greenwich had their best campaign on record by finishing 8th and you can read more about it here.
