Get pumped and get those legs moving as the first Wednesday in June is Global Running Day — on June 1 this year. Whether you’re a regular runner or a bit of a novice, it doesn’t matter, this holiday is about inspiring each other to lead a more active lifestyle, no matter the distance covered. This celebration is open and free to everyone. Simply grab your running shoes, a bottle of water, and get your legs moving!

Global Running Day started in the United States in 2009, although at the time it was referred to as National Running Day. The inaugural Global Running Day was held on June 1, 2016. On that day over 2.5 million runners from 177 different countries took part, running an estimated 9.2 million miles between them. We get out of breath just thinking about all that running.

The day aims to get everyone moving and be more active and champions not just the physical health benefits of running but also the mental health benefits it can have too, such as reduced anxiety.

Running and aerobic exercise release a flood of endorphins into your blood. Endorphins are often called the “feel-good” chemicals because they produce feelings of happiness and pleasure.

So what do we have in store for you on June 1st?

We will host not one, but two treadmills in our reception lobby, where we will be:

Aiming to hit another 100 mile challenge

Holding competitions for staff and Customers (even staff vs customers) with prizes to be won for:

  • Fastest sprint
  • Longest Sprint
  • Furthest distance covered

Additionally, we will be fundraising for Mind following our activities during April - Stress Awareness Month and May - mental Health awareness month

To donate please look out for the QR on the chalk board or on the treadmills at reception, simply scan and donate.

Anyone can get involved and the more people that participate will help us achieve our goal of a healthier and happier Hillingdon.
