Never In A Million Years
As you know we operate the council’s leisure centres and work closely with the local authority. If you are reading this, you are probably a member and already on your health journey. However, we encourage you to share this with anyone you know in the local area who is not exercising.
For many people, regular physical activity might not feel like an option. You might have a recurring injury or disability which stops you doing what you love, or it might feel too time-consuming or expensive. You might be worried about keeping motivation, or that exercise just isn’t your thing.
In Waltham Forest, there is something for everyone and as the leisure provider there is plenty at our venues too. Waltham Forest council’s new physical activity strategy is called A Million More Days and is about the significant increase on life expectancy if the 25% of residents who are not currently meeting Chief Medical Officer recommendations for weekly exercise can partake in more activity.
The below sections are full of activity tailored for people with different ability levels, free activities, group sessions and ideas for activity by yourself:
- Day to day Movement
- Walking and Jogging
- Swimming
- Cycling
- Active classes (in person or online)
- Chair Based Activity
- Sports
- Gardening and Nature
- Dance and Cultural Activity
- Disability friendly activities
- Women-only
- Young people
All sessions listed are free or low-cost. All of them are suitable for total beginners. The perfect entry point to exercise which you can then sustain at our venues.
Waltham Forest Council spoke to people across the borough who say the same thing: never in a million years did I think I’d be doing this activity but look at me now!
