On the 14th May 2023 BETTER Member Daniela, BETTER General Manager Nikki and a further 9 BETTER members and a dog came together for the second year in a row to raise awareness and money for BEAT an Eating Disorders Charity and to mark the start of National Metal Health Week.

The team upped the stakes after they conquered Pen Y Fan in March 22. The challenge this year was to complete the Brecon Beacons Horseshoe circular walk. The walk is a total of 10 miles in distance and includes popular mountain trails such as Corn Du (872m), Pen Y Fan (886m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan Y Big (717m). Along with the physical challenge the group also set a challenging fundraising target of £1000.

The challenge was set by BETTER Member Daniela who herself was diagnosed with an Eating Disorder during lock down and found amazing help and services from BEAT, support from BETTER Manager and fitness instructor Nikki, and close friends.

Team Eastern met at the foot of their challenge in great spirits with anticipation for the route ahead. The team were tested at times with steep climbs and declines, rough terrain and false peaks. This could be enough to dishearten any hopeful rambler, but with great weather and company, spectacular scenery and plenty of laughter (which increased with Daniela taking an unexpected mud bath), the team smashed the Brecon Beacons Horse Shoe in 5 hours and 30 minutes and have currently raised £544.00 with more donations still coming in.

Well done Team Eastern! What’s the next challenge...“Pretty Muddy”?
