GLL turned 30 years old this year and Better centres across the UK celebrated in style. In the same month of the GLL birthday celebrations, Race for Life also celebrated its 30th Anniversary.

Team Eastern kicked things off with taking on this year’s Race for Life Pretty Muddy event on the 8th July 2023. Members and staff from Eastern Leisure Centre completed a 5k (just over 3 miles) muddy obstacle course, climbing, crawling, laughing and sliding their way to the finish line to raise money for Cancer Research UK to help beat cancer.

The team this year was made up of 15 members from Eastern and the local community led by Eastern’s General Manager Nikki. They tackled obstacles such as ‘The A Frame’, Spiders Web and the iconic ‘Mud Slide’ to raise a fundraising target of £1600. Currently the team has raised an incredible £1030 plus £231 in gift aid for the charity. If you would like to donate and help the Team hit their target you can click HERE.

To further celebrate GLL’s 30th anniversary Eastern Leisure Centre then hosted a weekend of free, fun activities from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July. Our swim school and junior members took part in a ‘Design a birthday card competition and had additional Swim for All sessions available to attend on Saturday and Sunday.

Our adult members benefitted from a programme of ‘30’ themed fitness classes and gym challenges held over the 3 days, classes including 30 minute taster sessions such as HIIT, TRX, Ab Blast, Leg Blast, Intro to Running and PT Sessions delivered by Jason, Ethan, Nikki, Kieran, Sian and PT Davey. 30 minute gym workouts and challenges such as Race to 30 were available for customer to collect and complete from reception.

Better member Kirby celebrated with us and completed her first ‘Pretty Muddy’ Kirby says “Pretty Muddy was great fun I couldn’t stop laughing at times”.

Kirby also helped celebrate GLL’s anniversary celebrations by participating in 3 fitness classes. Kirby attended HIIT and Circuit Training in the morning and came back again for TRX in the evening! When asked what does she like about Eastern Kirby replied ‘I love the classes they are always different and challenging, its fun working out with friends and the staff are great, friendly and welcoming, the centre is the best thing since sliced bread”.

A massive well done and thank you to Team Eastern and the great contribution to a worthy charity and to everyone that helped us celebrate GLL’s 30th Anniversary.
