Over the weekend of 9th & 10th of December Sobell Leisure Centre held their first Rise Gymnastics Competition. The event gave children the opportunity to showcase what they had learnt throughout the year.  163 gymnasts took part from Sobell’s Explore and Excel groups, with some of the older squad children supporting as helpers on the day.

The gymnasts competed using a range of apparatus and were scored individually on their ability to perform the assigned skills.  All participants have been practicing hard over the last few weeks in preparation for the competition.  Explore gymnasts competed in; Core Skills, Vault, Bars and Bench whilst Excel competed in; Core Skills, Trampette, Vault and Tumble.   An overall score was then collated to determine the overall winners for each category.

The standard across the weekend was very high, with some fantastic skills on display. Many of the gymnasts were taking part in a competition for the first time, so this was their first experience of being judged and scored. There has been a lot of positive feedback from both parents and children, saying they “loved the calm and friendly environment”, their children “loved the experience” and were “really happy with the competition overall”.  All participants went home happy and were given a medal for their efforts.

A big thank you and well done to all who took part. A special mention to the spectators who cheered them on and the Sobell gymnastics team for putting the event together.
