Hillingdon’s Annual ‘Fustin Cup For Tuf-Uns’!
This year, April 1st marked the annual ‘Fustin Cup’ and re-opening of Hillingdon Lido!
The ‘Fustin Cup’ was first started in 1937 and was awarded to the first swimmer to swim the 20m width of the pool on the opening day of the season. The trophy’s name and writing is ‘Fustin’ (first one in) and ‘For Tuf-uns’ (for tough ones). Which, historically with the season starting early May and with temperatures sitting at 50° F (10°c) , it certainly was for tough ones! The trophy was first held by Tony Wells and more recently held by Alan Dorricot in 2023.
This year, 8am Monday morning 1st of April 2024, the sun was shining and with the water a fresh 11°c; 20+ swimmers waited eagerly for the ‘Fustin Cup’ race to start. After a competitive 20m race Lewis Emerton took the title of ‘Fustin Cup’ winner 2024.
After the morning dip, swimmers were then able to relax and warm up with complimentary refreshments, whilst having a chat and admiring the beautiful, well-kept archive of Lido photos set up in the activity room.

The Lido is such a great asset for residents and we can’t wait to see it grow and flourish in the coming months. In 2024, we’ll be having lots of exciting events running to get people outside and swimming.”
Whilst celebrating the opening of the Lido, we’d also like to thank our wonderful staff and volunteers who’ve worked tirelessly over the last few months to get everything ready.
